RWFS 040 | Kebabi Man | Lost at Sea (MP3)

This guest mix is by Kebabi Man who is also known as Julien Love based in Brisbane. He is a master of the edit taking his scapel to well known and obscure tracks all designed clearly for the dancefloor. I first heard of his work via youtube complemented with spliced together video footage that looks like its from the 80's which I couldn't get enough of. Some of the edits are avaliable along with some excellent recepies via his blog Edits, Food, No Hype. Julian has been receiving plays and kudos from Prins Thomas, The Underdog, Todd Terje, Victor Simonelli & Darshan from Metro Area among others. His DJ mixes offer up a spectrum of sounds this one a bit on the vintage detroit techno and chicago house tip which Ive been bugging out on all week. New mix from HANG UP DJ. Rhythms hovering just outside that London sphere some may call 'Dubstep', or be adventurous enough to call 'Funky'. People with their ears open, and heads up, place little stock in labels. What we can say for certain is that, if played properly, there will be waves of differing frequencies coming from your speakers, many of them in the extreme lower frequencies, and you may feel as though you are in a different place. Staying in the vicinity of 128 to 138 beats per minute, the mix style here is referred to as 'busy' , and may be too much so for certain less advanced listeners. This recording also has actual dynamic range, and is possibly best listened to in the dark; whether in a fast moving vehicle, or performing what's called 'bubbling' on a dance floor. The tracklist should illuminate things slightly. But again, the best bits happen in the mix. Enjoy. Mastered version of "Bounce.Haus" from deep in the crates of SF/London's own URL MONRO. Cult classic status. Had a lot of requests for a re-up on this one. Set starts off in a Detroit/Berlin lovelock around 126 bpm and ends up somewhere else. From Robert Hood's minimal grind ('96) into the Dancehall via Berlin and back to Baltimore, Jamaica, and Atlanta. Or something like that. Throw in some old darkside, second-wave Detroit techno anthems. Then peep all the many and splendid electronic labels from present-day Berlin i.e. Shitkatapult, ~Scape, Meteosound, et al. Then take it back to the Dancehall, boost the bpm. A little Vybz. A little Ms. Stephens. Follow with a healthy splash of the Ghostly/Spectral sound, then dub yourself silly with bruvs like Fenin and the Rhythm and Sound crew. Even Los Hermanos Latinos get the nod here. SF Mission stylee.
