Jazz Steppin' is really about kicking up the tempo a bit but still maintaining a chilled out vibe. Lots of jazz, r&b, samba, and funk combined with intelligent drum and bass music. A lot of Drum n Bass is hard and edgy these days. It seems that you really have to dig to find the jazzier stuff, which is a real shame. However, spend some time digging and you will stumble across some great artists still producing music with a softer, more "musical" sound. Heavy DNB is fine for doing some serious "dancing" or for working out. Aura Kamikura, aka Janina Otto, and the Global Noise Movement, are amongst those leading the way. Aura has graced us with a micro-set from a Live session at Moritzbastei featuring tracks from Reformed Faction, Sonic Subjunkies, Mlada Fronta, Celluloid Mata, DJ Hidden, Ammo, Overcast, and 13th Hour. The set is organic yet logical and leads you though a journey of industrial, haunting, and sometimes, frightening intensity. I think the DJ and producer, explains her take on music best in her own words: I find it admirable that this scene is so wide: from techno to trance, from breakbeats to industrial and rhythmic noise.
