Protokoll - No Men Mixtape (MP3)

Boston bred - San Diego based Protokoll had a stand out track ('Moving Forward') on the recent Scion/I heart comix remix CD. With their bauhaus inspired mood rock combined with a dancefloor friendly beat selection these boys look to be on the way up! They recently put this mixtape together which doesn't feature their own music but certainly serves as a good barometer of their own musical tastes (from Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam to Throbbing Gristle). A great mix of party jams, mashups and more.

First of all- for all you mixtape DJs out there - take a listen and witness what a recording engineer can do for your MP3-mix. Frankie had Greg from the Acid Girls engineer this tape and gotta say it TOTALLY sounds like it. Hats off for that alone! Oh yeah and the mix itself is completely devastating with all kinds of upfront tunes that only a dude who runs a record label can get their hands on. Frankie runs LA-Based IHEARTCOMIX and this mix runs through all of the remixes of that labels latest tracks. Originally this mix was made for Scion's mixtape series and now it is released into the inter-wild for your earbud rockin pleasure.

Meneo - 8bit Party Mix (MP3)

Not having listened to much Chiptune or 8bit tracks lately I had kinda written off the movement as a novel idea that dwindled. 4 years ago I was intrigued by making music using only 8bit Nintendo GameBoy sound effects - but the genre was kinda limited by purists who refused to mix the chiptune sound with any tech aided beat making. But now out of nowhere comes Meneo (out of Barcelona in reality) ! Dropping Gameboy reggaeton and lofi electro dancefloor killers - Meneo has been destroying the underground across Europe. These dudes get so loose they were banned in Sweden for on-stage nudity! (I thought the Swedes were some of the most open-minded on the nudie tip in all of the EU) Be on the look out for their "yo soy tu papi" cut (track 4) which is a future dancefloor anthem in the making (paging Armand van Helden - consider remixing this jammy!). note: some of the blends are not perfect with some minor beat doubling but check it out nonetheless for something you've probably never heard before.
