Boston bred - San Diego based Protokoll had a stand out track ('Moving Forward') on the recent Scion/I heart comix remix CD. With their bauhaus inspired mood rock combined with a dancefloor friendly beat selection these boys look to be on the way up! They recently put this mixtape together which doesn't feature their own music but certainly serves as a good barometer of their own musical tastes (from Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam to Throbbing Gristle). A great mix of party jams, mashups and more.

Pezzner - Spring Opening at the Polyclinic (MP3)

The random mixes that I get in my inbox are just NUTS! Some of them are done by drunken deaf mice who love recording 13 songs playing at the same time. But then at the other end of the spectrum I get these really polite introductions from really cool folks who just deeply dig their music. Case in Point: Dave Pezzner - the 2007 US Laptop DJ champion - who throws down a set that doesn't advertise that fact too heavily. He laptops all of the beats into this mix perfectly. A great Springtime mix to serve as your personal sound track.

First of all- for all you mixtape DJs out there - take a listen and witness what a recording engineer can do for your MP3-mix. Frankie had Greg from the Acid Girls engineer this tape and gotta say it TOTALLY sounds like it. Hats off for that alone! Oh yeah and the mix itself is completely devastating with all kinds of upfront tunes that only a dude who runs a record label can get their hands on. Frankie runs LA-Based IHEARTCOMIX and this mix runs through all of the remixes of that labels latest tracks.
