Another summer winding down, another fall settling into the city, another day of digging for the right soundtrack to fit it all. Here in New York, a city that prides itself on being cutting edge in everything but air conditioning, after a day of sweating and surviving, sometimes it all boils down to that gorgeous moment at the end of every night, when you sit on your fire escape in Brooklyn, enjoying whatever breeze you get for as long as you can, maybe smoking a cigarette, and stare off at the skyline of a metropolis just one swipe of a MetroCard away. But this ain't poetry, it's music. So! In honor of the 100 degree heat, here's a quick set of chill-out music to cool you down, get me? To make up for my hiatus in posting proper mixes, here's a quickie live recording from the regular Friday night gig at Shebeen in NYC (at least when I'm playing). A little over 30 minutes long, all vinyl, not polished or planned in the least, recorded on a nearly-broken MiniDisc that may just have been the first MD ever constructed, with crude tools by cavemen beatmakers from times long gone. The usual style of downtempo electronica, mixed with underground, independent, and old-school (read: chill) hip-hop. Hope this mini-set chills out many of your late-night hours.
