ABL:Radio - Red Hook Shooters - Mixed by Goldstitch (MP3)
So it's been forever and a day since the last ABL:Radio mix, and no we haven't quit, just taken an extended break while pushing our Suspiria parties. That has wound down so our focus is back on the podcast. What better way so start back up again, than with a truly amazing mix? While DJing at roof top party in Williamsburg a few weeks ago, I met Goldstitch. We chatted after my set regarding similar musical tastes. After he returned to London, we reconnected once and he sent me this funkadelic, discolicious mix. Strangely enough, the title "Redhook Shooters" was given long before we talked about running it on ABrooklynLife Radio. It must be destiny! From very humble beginnings Djing around Manchester and my native Macclesfield, I’ve gone on to putting on equally humble Goldstitch nights around London since 2003. I mainly like to be on the other side of the decks bouncing off the walls at Lowlife’s quarterly parties in London which always has a brilliant crowd. Personally for me It’s all about late nights round friends houses playing our new finds... this is when we really listen to the music and adapt our knowledge and taste. There’s a group of us Starting a new night for September in Brixton, south London called “Let it Happen” with more grooves than Gordon Ramseys face. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Happy Mondays-Rave On (Club Mix), Divine Edits - Sermon (Serotonin Edit), C.O.M.B.I. - It A Late, Michael Chapman - Lescudjack (Disco Devil Edit), Sammy Barbot - New Mexico (Lovefinger's Barrio Edit), Revanche - 1979 It´s Dancing Time (Kotey Edit), Random Rune - Pride Before A Fall, Tony Orlando - Don’t Let Go (Pete Herbert edit), BS Machine & Der Beat - Jump Up Let's Go, Beautiful Ballet - Energy, P-Funk All Stars - Hydraulic Pump, Angela - I Gotta Little Love, Chaz Jankel - Get yourself Together, Odyssey - Inside Out, Goody Goody - It Looks Like Love, Jackson Jones - I Feel Good Put Your Pants On, Q. Memories Of Summer: Daft Punk At Keyspan Park, Coney Island (HTML→MP3)
A friend of mine dropped this little gem into my lap this morning. So, on this chilly autumn day, we can think back to the awesomeness that was the Daft Punk show at Keyspan Park this summer. I'd say it ranks as the most memorable event in my book.

ABL:Radio - I've Dreamt Music - Mixed by imunderpressure (MP3)
Back in 1981, long before the iPod and when I was a young lad, my mother purchased a Sony Walkman. I'd steal it from her when I'd go off to bed and sit for hours listening to my limited collection of cassette tapes. One of my favorites was the soundtrack to "Blade Runner," a movie which had lasting impact in my dreams and visions of what the future might bring. (Yes, I know "Blade Runner" was about a dystopian L.A. of the future.) This week, imunderpressure returns with his second mix for ABL:Radio. It begins with a track from the "Blade Runner" soundtrack (Esper Edition) and swiftly moves into a pleasing set of Italo, disco, and 80's funk 'n soul. You'll recognize some tracks from previous mixes, but there are plenty you haven't heard here, too. This mix is exactly the headphone candy I would've loved on that old Sony, whether slipping off into dream land or rambling around the streets.
Genres: 80s, disco, electronic, funk, funk and soul, italo disco

ABL:Radio - Side Effects - Mixed by Taka (MP3)
In the mid-1990s, a magical place existed called MJQ. Located in the basement lounge of Atlanta's Ponce De Leon Hotel, it was home to stylish patrons sipping on cheap drinks, chatting, and listening to sensational music spun by DJs including our guest this week, Taka. His cultivated compositions of funk, jazz, deep house and Ninja Tunes-esqe hip-hop kept the clientele captivated late into the night. Taka began his DJing career around 1993. Along with his featured residency at MJQ, he hopped around to Homage Cafe, Ying Yang Cafe, Nomenclature Museum, Crescent Room, and Kaya. After moving to New York City in 2000, he DJed at the Leopard Lounge in East Village. These days, you can occasionally find him at Sullivan Room. Some recent gigs include opening for UK's Domu, organized by Federation NYC in 2006.

ABL:Radio - Big and Bouncy - Mixed by TigerStripes (MP3)
To get back into the swing of things, we have guest DJ TigerStripes from Portland, Oregon. He got his start spinning 60s jazz, 70s funk, lounge, exotica and soundtracks, but moved on to 80s R&B and disco sound after a local DJ dropped off a few crates of records at the record shop where he worked. The rest, as they say, is history.

ABL:Radio - A Game Of Notes - Mixed by Dr.Rock'n'Shock (MP3)
If you've followed ABL:Radio for some time, you'd know that we occasionally veer off into hip-hop land. This week we have a mix by Dion Corbett who previously did the "Environ Environment" mix as DJ Spankie Hazard. For this mix he adopted the alias Dr.Rock'n'Shock. Dion describes his effort as "an exploration of humor in music." What you will find on this episode is one hour and eighteen minutes chock full of outstanding hip-hop classics from throughout the 80s and 90s with tracks from Kool Kieth, Jeru The Damaja, Grand Mixer D.S.T. and much, much more.
