Not content with sitting on the sidelines after 88 episodes, I've finally decided to produce my own mix for ABL:Radio. I'm following in the footsteps of many great DJs who've graced our blog, hopefully this comes close to the magnificence they've brought us. This mix should take you on a dreamy 80-minute interplanetary journey though disco, techno, and other far-out jams. I've thrown in a one of my favorite records from a previous DJ life near the end of the mix. ABL:Radio - Side Effects - Mixed by Taka (MP3)

In the mid-1990s, a magical place existed called MJQ. Located in the basement lounge of Atlanta's Ponce De Leon Hotel, it was home to stylish patrons sipping on cheap drinks, chatting, and listening to sensational music spun by DJs including our guest this week, Taka. His cultivated compositions of funk, jazz, deep house and Ninja Tunes-esqe hip-hop kept the clientele captivated late into the night. Taka began his DJing career around 1993. Along with his featured residency at MJQ, he hopped around to Homage Cafe, Ying Yang Cafe, Nomenclature Museum, Crescent Room, and Kaya. After moving to New York City in 2000, he DJed at the Leopard Lounge in East Village. These days, you can occasionally find him at Sullivan Room. Some recent gigs include opening for UK's Domu, organized by Federation NYC in 2006.

ABL:Radio - Down Tiempo - Mixed by Rich Woods (MP3)

Rich Woods makes his third appearance on ABL:Radio with a departure form his presumed techy beats from mixes "Sardonic" and "Transude." This episode is about down tempo and time. Sounds from Leftfield, International Observer, Clinic, Engineers, and Aphex Twin will fill you with delectation and solace. Before throwing on Eno next time, this might do the trick.

ABL:Radio - SVEK! SVEK! SVEK! - Mixed by Adam Smith (HTML→MP3)

As an ABL:Radio regular, hopefully you're starting to get to know our established DJs. For this week's incarnation Adam Smith has been inspired to make an all-Svek mix. The record label is no more, but the influence of the Swedish label (Jasper Dahlbäck, Carl Lekebusch and Stephan Grieder all had a hand in its success) is still being felt across minimal and tech-house domain.
