Where to begin? It's been almost 5 years since I've rolled up my sleeves and made a mix, and I wish I could tell you why. A large part of it was my disappointment in the quality of music that was being produced, but there were other things as well. I don't even know how to put it into words. So instead, I give you this mix. From deep house to deep tech, and even some progressive, my hope is that in some small way, it communicates to you. I hope you enjoy it. With 'Doldrums' I just wanted to share music I've recently been into. I made a firm desicion to let the tracks play out their full lenght if necessary, just so I could enjoy making this without thinking too much about when to start a long blend into the next track. Funny enough, it turned out pretty well. There's a good variation of styles, a few odd tempo changes here and there and a lot of amazing music. Overall it's pretty relaxed, organic even. Music from John Tejada, Invisible Conga People, Ilija Rudman, Trus'me, Linkwood & the like

Finn Johannsen delivers a beautiful set of tunes from larte 80's onwards. In his own words: "What led me to record 'After Season' was actually the old-fashioned desire to give something personal to my loved one on a lazy weekend when we both again forgot about the day we came together. Other than that I was getting a bit irritated by the recent flood of 'balearic' sets, many of which seemed more intent of displaying obscure beautiful mellow music than what was really played there from the late 80's on. I had some personal favourites then which I regularly revisited, so I wanted to assemble some classics of the deeper variety that always moved me, ranging from melancholia to bliss, with an admittedly large dose of strings."

Deeprhythms #45 'Brown Study' (MP3)

Slightly more laid-back deep house offering this time, 'Brown Study' is filled with calming spacious strings and deeper than deep basslines. All tracks are recent, but timeless. The mood is somewhat meditative, but pulsating basslines and percussion maintain the attention. As for the tracks - I just can't get enough of Uncle Abner's "Blackmoon" EP, it's one of the best releases to come out this year, check it out. Deeprhythms #44 'Shimmer' (MP3)

It's been over a year since the last mix - and frankly, I almost gave up hope with house music. It seemed liked there were very few quality releases coming out and none of better ones really stood out either. But come the end of 2006 and everything moved forward again, namely the sound from Innervisions was creating a buzz and rightly so - Ame and the rest of the crew were creating something new and unique. And there I was, listening to the music called "house" once again and getting excited like a little kid. Some of the highlights of this mix: Stefan Goldmann - what a simple but catchy hook, Lars Behrenroth remix - I can relate to that, Chateau Flight - pure genius.
