Since 10th Feb 2006 there have been Dilla fans all over the world pouring over his death. It was a tragic day for good music - not just hip hop. Dilla represented a new sound, an influential sound, a beatmaker on a higher plateau from anyone else. Working with seminal hip hop artists such as: The Roots, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, Common, The Pharcyde and Madlib, helped to boost his recognition in the producing world. There have been many Dilla tribute mixes over the past year and a half, and I wanted to do my own one. This selection of songs produced by Jay Dee a.k.a J Dilla represent my idea of Dilla’s sound - Soaked in soul, smacking snare drums and crisp hi-hats, with that classic Dilla bounce. If you are a Dilla novice or a Dilla veteran, then this is for you - regardless.
